Geological Presence.

At Islander Art Lab, I create artworks and experiences that engage directly with the elemental Cycladic landscape.

The Cyclades, characterised by a semi-arid climate, are rugged mountain peaks rising dramatically from the depths of the Aegean Sea, framed by the South Aegean volcanic arc - a testament to ancient volcanic eruptions that reshaped the region’s landscapes. Elemental forces like intense sunlight, relentless winds, and constant erosion define this unique yet fragile ecosystem.

Over a decade ago, my work was inspired by freediving, by the depths, hues and textures of the Aegean Sea. In 2018, with the birth of my son, my practice shifted toward land, drawing inspiration from earth, surface and geological presence.

In my fine art practice I use materials sourced directly from the Cycladic landscape, and each piece carries the weight and memory of the local geological history, forming a grounding axis between Earth and the human body.

Through sustained engagement with land, matter and deep time, my work seeks to reveal the structure beneath surface beauty. It is informed by curiosity for microscopic formations and a pursuit of reduction, a movement toward simplicity and material clarity.

This approach, grounded in material practice and direct engagement with matter and geological time, offers structure and coherence as a counterpoint to a fragmented and overstimulated culture.
